Victoria May FAQs

FAQs about Victoria May natural, handmade soaps, bath and skincare products

How do you make your soap?

Victoria May soap is soap is made in the tradition of fine soap-making, using the "cold process." We blend the chosen oils, do not cook them, so the nutrients are retained. We then combine these oils with a sodium hydroxide solution and stir together to create soap. Before pouring into our wooden moulds, we add our essential oils, natural fragrance oils, herbs, spices, and botanicals. After 48 hours, we remove the soap from the mould, cut it by hand and then leave it to cure for 4 to 6 weeks. The end result is a mild natural soap that nourishes your skin.

How is handmade soap different from commercial soap?

Our soap is handmade using the traditional cold process method. This old fashioned method of soap making creates and retains glycerin, which helps to moisturise your skin so that you won't have that dry, itchy feeling you get from using commercial soaps.

Do you use artificial preservatives?

No, the key to our products is that everything is natural.

Do you test on animals?

None of our products have been tested on animals.

Do you mass produce your soap?

No. Because we make small, quality controlled batches, with every batch being handmade and hand cut, we can maintain our high product standards. We prefer to make small batches of soap more frequently, as this guarantees that our customers will get a fresh product. This means that there may be a small variance from time to time in size or colour, but that is what makes each product unique.

Can I use handmade soap on sensitive skin?

Yes. Because we use only natural ingredients, carefully blended together, our handmade products are mild and gentle on skin. However, if you do have sensitive skin, we would always advise that you carry out a test - use a small amount of the soap on your skin, then leave it for at least 24 hours in order to check your sensitivity before using the product further.

Are your products certified?

Yes, all our products are Certificated and Safety Assessed by a Cosmetic Chemist in accordance with EU Regulations, which means that you can be confident that they are made to the highest standards and are safe to use.

What's the best way to keep handmade soap?

Our soaps are hard and long lasting because they are cured for 4-6 weeks before selling them. However, a dry bar of soap is a long-lasting bar! You will obviously need to get it wet when using it, but it is best to keep it in a soap dish that allows soap to drain, so that it does not sit in a pool of water.

Can I sell your soaps?

Yes, we would be delighted to discuss this with you, so please get in touch using the Contact Us page of our website.
